This year, CCESL is hiring four Graduate Leads. To learn more about the duties of each Graduate Lead, refer to the Responsibilities section below.
Essential Functions:
- Attend weekly 90-minute staff meetings and weekly 1to1 meetings with their supervisor.
- Support community-engaged work at DU by serving as an ambassador of community engagement, including attending and supporting CCESL events, tabling to raise awareness of CCESL, supporting recruitment for CCESL programs, and giving presentations to departments/units, student organizations, and classes.
- Provide general support in CCESL’s day-to-day operations, as needed.
- Fulfill the responsibilities corresponding to the specific role, listed below.
Graduate Lead, DU Grand Challenges Initiative
- Dr. Cara DiEnno, CCESL Executive Director, seeks a graduate lead to support the DU Grand Challenges Initiative. DU Grand Challenges is a family of programs that bring together university and community change-makers to address the most difficult and far-reaching issues facing our society today. These programs support community-engaged work that addresses three interrelated issues in our communities: improving daily living, increasing economic opportunity, and advancing deliberation and action for the public good.
- The lead will help coordinate and do outreach for events; support students involved in DUGC programs; conduct reviews and evaluations to guide ongoing program refinement; support the development of goals, objectives, and outcomes for programs; track possible grant opportunities; etc.
Graduate Lead, Student Programs
- John Macikas, CCESL Student Programs Manager, seeks a graduate lead to support CCESL’s student programs, which include the Community-engaged Fellows program, the DUGC Scholars program, and the Puksta Scholars program. In these programs, students receive support as they engage in collaborative work and community-engaged scholarship with communities on a variety of social justice issues.
- The lead will help with program planning; attendance, support, and facilitation at program meetings; student support and mentorship; and administrative support.
Graduate Lead, Community Outreach & Communications
- The graduate lead will support , Angelica Ortiz, with DU’s partnership with Girl Scouts of Colorado; communications and marketing outreach for CCESL programs; and community connections through CCESL’s Scholar Shop resource. Scholar Shop is a resource that students, faculty, and staff can use to connect with local organizations to collaborate on projects that address community-identified needs and interests.
- Duties include scheduling content through CCESL’s communication channels; submitting events and deadlines to DU mass communication channels; conducting check-ins with Scholar Shop partners; maintaining community partner and project tracking sheets; and supporting Scholar Shop campus outreach. Strong interest in social media and communications preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to set and meet deadlines
- Good organizational skills
- Community / civic engagement or community organizing experience
- Commitment to social justice and anti-oppression
Required Qualifications:
- All graduate students enrolled for the entire 2024-2025 academic year are eligible to apply.
Working Environment:
- Standard office environment.
- Unexpected interruptions occur often, and stress level is low to moderate.
- Noise level is quiet to moderate.
Physical Activities:
- Use of standard office equipment
Compensation and Time Commitment:
- Pay Rate: $23.00-$24.00/hour, commensurate with education level and relevant experience
- 10-15 hours/week for Fall, Winter, and Spring Quarters, with the potential to continue over Summer 2024 and in future academic years.
- Graduate Leads are expected to create a weekly schedule each quarter with most hours occurring in-office and during normal business hours. Graduate Leads will plan their schedule with their supervisor.
- Occasional work during weekends and evenings may be required.
