Essential Functions:
- Assisting the garden director to organize monthly Garden Advisory Group meetings.
- Overseeing the plot application process and new gardener orientation meetings.
- Tracking gardener plot assignments and making sure non-DU gardeners pay their yearly plot fees.
- Helping update and maintain the DU Bridge Community Garden website.
- Making posts to the garden’s social media accounts.
- Updating the gardener gallery poster each year and creating other garden signage as needed.
- Helping with sustainability initiatives in the garden.
- Being a liaison between the Bridge Garden and Denver Urban Gardens.
- Responding to garden emails.
- Helping organize garden workdays and events.
- Checking on, monitoring, and working in the garden.
- Working with the DU Center for Sustainability on joint projects.
- Working with the garden director on new projects and on maintaining the garden as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Written and verbal communication skills.
- Initiative, follow-through, and reliability.
- Adaptable and flexible.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills; ability to work effectively with large groups of people.
- Experience creating and maintaining website content with multiple interfaces.
Required Qualifications:
- Current University of Denver graduate student enrolled for the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 academic year, located in the Denver area.
- Eligibility for federal work study only.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Evidence of prior successful Community Garden Management experience.
- Previous Gardening knowledge and experience (methods, materials, cultivation).
- Strong interest in food security and agriculture.
- Experience with community building and events.
Working Environment:
- This is an on-campus position.
- Frequent visits to the garden will be necessary for check-ins, community events, and maintenance.
- Availability for weekly meetings is also necessary.
- Most administrative work can be done remotely.
Physical Activities:
- Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Competence in handling, controlling, or feeling objects and tools.
- Occasionally required to move about the garden/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.
Compensation and Benefits:
- This position is funded through federal work-study, which requires eligibility through the DU Financial Aid Office.
- Students will be paid commiserate with experience, and there is the opportunity for yearly increases, dependent on performance.
- This position requires 10 hours per week during fall, winter, and spring quarters with flexibility in scheduling.
- Working during the growing season during the summer quarter is also preferred if possible. Some evening/weekend hours required.
In compliance with Colorado’s Healthy Families and Workplaces Act (HFWA), non-benefited employees accrue one hour of paid leave for every 30 hours worked up to a maximum of 48 hours per year.
