Sue Gillies, B.S., B.App.Sci., MBA, Independent Consultant

Sue is a skilled strategic change and transformation catalyst: conceptualizing, creating, developing and leading programs to facilitate sustainable cultural change and the resulting improvements in efficiency and effectiveness of the organization. Along with her ability to work at both strategic and tactical levels, what makes her different is my ability to really see people as well as situations. Sue’s approach is practical and down-to-earth. She leads with passion and aspiration not only to improve the bottom line, but also to improve peoples’ lives, creating comfort with changes that help both clients and organizations flourish.

When Sue was a young speech pathologist specializing in acquired brain injury, she worked with a Scottish teenager who was resistant to participating in our client sessions. One day she visited his home and noticed Metallica posters all over the wall. From that day on, Sue couched all her speech sessions in the context of this American heavy metal band, and her client made great progress! That experience taught Sue the power of the finding the right context and anchors required to motivate a patient to adopt and maintain a new way of communicating. Consequently, creating the structures and environment in which a change can be adopted and sustained has since become a key focus of her work.

Through Sue’s journey from sociology and clinical practice to executive leadership, project management, chief of staff and organizational change management consulting, she has witnessed the many hurdles that come with transformation. And she has experienced firsthand the transformative power of utilizing a people-first change management approach to achieve the full value and benefits of any project.

Working as an independent management consultant across all realms of healthcare, Sue’s goal is to empower my clients with the tools, techniques, processes and structures needed to sustain the changes we make, regardless of their size or complexity. Sue has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Speech Pathology, a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Melbourne, Australia. She has authored, presented and published papers on leadership, gender communication differences, customer service, healthcare revenue cycle, process improvement, board governance and service delivery models. Additionally, Sue is a certified mediator, a coach, a yoga teacher and the current Board Vice President of the Colorado Chapter of ACMP.
