Health & Well-being Promotion (HWP) is a part of the Campus Recreation & Well-being team within the Kennedy Mountain Campus, Wellness & Recreation (KMCWR) department of Student Affairs. Health & Well-being Promotion is committed to supporting the campus community with education, engagement, and behavioral change regarding health and well-being topics using upstream prevention and harm reduction strategies. About the Thrive Peer Educators
We expect Thrive Peer Educators to share Health and Well-being Promotion (HWP)’s commitment to supporting student well-being through evidence-informed approaches using stream prevention, health promotion, and harm reduction. We believe that all students deserve opportunities to build the knowledge, skills, and connections that help them thrive, and that peer educators play an important role in creating a campus environment that supports holistic well-being. Thrive Peer Educators should be prepared to engage with students from a variety of backgrounds and experiences, communicate effectively, and foster meaningful conversations about health and well-being. An understanding of the many factors that influence well-being, including social environments, life experiences, and access to resources, is valuable in helping students navigate challenges and pursue their personal and academic goals.
Position Detail:
The Peer Education Program Assistant holds a part-time (approximately 20 hours per week) appointment on the Health & Well-being Promotion Team. In collaboration with their supervisor, the Program Assistant supervises and coordinates the Thrive Peer Educator program and other peer-to-peer initiatives. This includes the recruiting, training, and supervision[JM1] of the Thrive Peer Educator team. The Program Assistant is also responsible for assisting with various health promotion activities, including outreach and campus-wide events.
This position requires strong leadership, program development skills, and communication skills as well as the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team. The program assistant will collaborate with other members of the HWP team and may also collaborate with other campus departments. This position reports to the Assistant Director for Well-being Promotion.
This position is a one-year appointment through the 2026–2027 academic year, with the opportunity to extend for a second year (2027–2028). A second-year appointment will be dependent upon meeting expectations during the end-of-year performance evaluation, completion of an intent to return application, program needs, and mutual interest in continuing the role. The second-year appointment will be assessed through an end-of-year interview process. This position is capped at two years.
Summary of Responsibilities
Programming and Advising Peer Education
- Work in collaboration Health & Well-being Promotion staff to oversee all aspects of the Thrive Peer Education program which includes:
- Recruit, train, and supervise undergraduate Thrive Peer Educators and Lead Peer Educators
- Support Lead Peer Educators in their leadership of Peer Educator Committees including:
- Social Media
- Training & Development
- Recruiting & Hiring
- Community Outreach & Partnerships Committee
- Advise and support Peer Educator led programs by supporting student tasks including scheduling, space reservations, and creating facilitator guides for peer-led tabling outreach
- Plan and lead Thrive Peer Educator team meetings in collaboration with supervisor, possibly taking place after business hours.
- Support and conduct annual performance reviews for all Thrive Peer Educators
- Advise and coordinate peer educators’ planned events
Intervene: DU Administration: Coordinate logistics of and manage communications for Intervene: DU, the required bystander intervention training for all incoming students
- Track attendance and coordinate account holds for first-year and transfer students
- Coordinate shadowing of first-year Peer Educators facilitating their first Intervene: DU Workshop
- Assist in the program evaluation and data collection of workshops
- Support the development, implementation, and evaluation of campus health promotion programs
- Some evening and weekend hours will be required
Other Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement campus health promotion programs that align with departmental functional areas.
- Occasionally support evening or weekend events or programs that support departmental or Peer Education programs and events including but not limited to Discoveries Orientation, Homecoming, and other requests from campus partners.
Departmental Duties
- Attend bi-weekly Health & Well-being Promotion team meetings.
- Support the Division of Student Affairs for campus wide programs, as assigned by your supervisor
- Other responsibilities and duties as assigned by supervisor
Required Qualifications
- Candidates must have an earned Bachelor’s degree
- A demonstrated commitment health equity, harm reduction, and student development
- Excellent organizational, planning, interpersonal and communications skills
- Ability to work independently and as a team member
- A genuine interest and satisfaction in working with students, faculty, and staff
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience planning, implementing, and/or evaluating health and well-being programs.
- Experience, interest, or strong knowledge related to health and well-being, especially peer education
- Strong knowledge of student development theories and concepts
- Supervisory experience
Working Environment
- Standard office environment.
- Unexpected interruptions occur often, and stress level is moderate to high.
- Noise level is quiet to moderate.
Physical Activities
- Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period.
- Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.
Supervision & Training
The Peer Education Program Assistant will receive extensive and ongoing training on multiple facets of health & well-being education, programming, and administrative processes. The Peer Education Program Assistant will have regular 1:1 meetings with the Assistant Director for Well-being Promotion.
Compensation and Benefits
Pay range is $21.00-$23.00 per hour depending on experience. This position is eligible for a federal work-study, which requires eligibility through the Financial Aid Office. This position is also open to non-work study funded students, and external applicants. The Program Assistant will be paid with the opportunity for yearly increases, dependent on performance. This position requires 20-24 hours per week for fall, winter, and spring quarters with flexibility in scheduling. Some evening/weekend hours required.
In compliance with Colorado’s Healthy Families and Workplaces Act (HFWA), non-benefited employees accrue one hour of paid leave for every 30 hours worked up to a maximum of 48 hours per year.
