About Us
Just a few short years ago, the Village Institute was born from the question:
“How might we create a community where refugee families can more easily access the resources they need and make use of the skills they have to succeed in this country?”
Since then, our small staff of family services providers and early childhood educators, refugee moms and families, and a strong network of partners and mentors brought this community to life in the height of the pandemic, opening our doors in May, 2020.
We have demonstrated our ability to engage the community, create essential programming, build on what works, and redesign what does not.
Volunteer Opportunities
We couldn’t do what we do without the support of our amazing volunteers!
Opportunities vary from event support, to renovation projects, to garden and yard work, to opportunities to mentor and support our students and families.
Volunteering gives students opportunities to learn, build practical skills, connect with communities, and discover the kind of work they would like to pursue.
This year, CARE will be offering the programs highlighted in the attached flyer, along with wellness and skill-building workshops. We are looking for students who may be interested in volunteering in opportunities such as:
- Supporting workshops for immigrant and refugee women
- Working one-on-one with participants seeking employment
- Helping with résumés, job searches, and online applications
- Supporting participants who are developing basic computer and digital skills through computer literacy workshops
- Assisting with English practice, language interpretation wellness activities, and other CARE related activities
These opportunities can provide students with hands-on experience working alongside diverse communities while developing skills in community engagement, workforce development, communication, program support, and culturally responsive practice. We provide on-the-job training and guidance to help volunteers succeed in their roles.
