Mock Interviews (SEA Badge Students Only)
For student employees who participated in the SEA Badge program only!
Congratulations on completing all requirements for one or more Student Employees Achieve badges! Now, for the final step, you get to complete a mock interview with one of our off-campus employer partners. A mock interview provides an opportunity for you to say out loud all that you’ve been working on defining this year: your transferable skills, your career preparation, and your professional experience.
Action steps:
- Read the preparation information below to get ready!
- Click on the “Schedule” tab above to see available times with the employer(s) you’re interested in. Sign up for one or more slots! (It can be helpful to get multiple perspectives sometimes!)
- Prepare for your mock interview by looking back over the Canvas discussion board prompts and our interview prep materials.
- Show up to your slot on time and ready to go! A staff member will also be present for the first few minutes to make sure everything is set.
- Upon registering, you will be asked to submit a copy of your resume. We will share these with your interviewer so that they can have some information about you before your meeting.
- You will also be asked to provide us with your phone number. This is so that we can quickly contact you day-of if there are any issues.
Preparatory Information:
- Each mock interview will be 45 minutes long, allowing for roughly 5 minutes of introductions, 30 minutes for the mock interview itself, and 20 minutes for feedback and discussion. All interviews will be held on Zoom unless you request otherwise.
- Mock interviews are not for the purpose of hiring and don’t come with any expectation of an offer afterward. They are instead an opportunity for you to have real-world practice with interviewing and to receive feedback you might not otherwise receive in an actual job interview. They can also be a good opportunity for you to build a relationship with a professional in your field! If you enjoy talking with your interviewer, make sure to get their contact information and share yours so that you can remain in touch moving forward.
- If you sign up for a mock interview time, make sure you will be able to show up to that interview. Also, just because these are not for hiring purposes does not mean you should not take them seriously. These interviews are for you to practice, so treat it as though it is real. Wear business formal attire like you would to a real job interview. Arrive on time and prepared.
