Veteran Connections Networking Event – Employer Information & Tips for Success

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

In collaboration with Right Foot Forward, Career & Professional Development and Alumni Engagement, this event is designed to connect employers with DU’s military-affiliated population, providing a unique opportunity to support and engage.

While we can’t guarantee there won’t be student absences, we are happy to share the students who have been invited to this event.

  • DU’s military-affiliated population
  • Veteran students
  • Veteran alums
  • Leaders and members of the Student Veteran Association

  • This is a networking event, therefore you will be moving around the room and chatting with students.
  • You will not have a designated table or booth.
  • Employers will introduce themselves at the start of the program and then the networking will begin.
  • Event organizers will prompt employers to move to the next table at certain time intervals.
  • Delicious heavy appetizers and a bar will be available (bring ID).

  • Learn about DU’s veteran population, including how your company can further support them.
  • Advance your organization’s recruiting initiatives.
  • Connect with potential candidates for internship or full-time opportunities.

Attendees will ask a number of questions and we anticipate some of the questions below to come up. If these questions do not come up, share this information regardless. This information can help your organization stand out and helps students get to know you better.

  • What veteran support programs is your organization working on? Or, programs your organization has that may benefit the veteran population?
  • What resources are there at your company that promote inclusion veteran employees?
  • What employee resource groups (ERGs) are available at your organization?
  • What are the benefits your organization offers that set you apart from others (example: medical/mental health coverage, EAP offerings, etc.)?
  • What are the professional growth opportunities at your organization? Where do people go on to work?
  • How might your organization support the Student Veteran Association with sponsorship opportunities, coming to club meetings, networking, etc.?

Please note that if your organization has negative press, students may inquire about this. Be prepared to address to provide appropriate information as you are able. If you need further assistance, please refer students to the event organizer for further support and information.

Tips for Success

  • Some of you may be coming from the career fair before, so please make sure to take a pause for yourself, get water, etc. before coming to the Burwell Center for Career Achievement 3rd Floor – it’s a full day of talking!
  • There is no dress code requirement for students. Many may come dressed casually as they come to/from class, work, or other extracurriculars.
  • There are many forms of greetings such as verbal, handshakes, waving hello, etc. Individuals will have various comfort levels involving physical contact. Please respect boundaries and consent.
  • Although we share the list of employers ahead of time, students may not research your organization. Be prepared to share important information even if you are not asked.
  • Come with questions to ask about the students, their extracurriculars, and their proudest moments participating in the DU and veteran community.
  • Don’t let the connections and conversations end with the event. Make sure to exchange contact information with our student organizations.
  • Have a great time connecting with our students! They’re amazing.
