Essential Functions
Writing Center Support:
- Serve as a point of contact among Writing Center staff and external audiences, including administrators, faculty, students, and other stakeholders.
- Communicate effectively with writers and fellow Writing Center staff by responding to email and online inquiries and monitoring our Slack channel.
- Monitor and update the Writing Center consultation schedule, including identifying, addressing, and documenting potential scheduling and consulting concerns ahead of time.
- Greet writers at the front desk or on Zoom, connect them with their consultant, and communicate with writers and consultants about changes in appointment logistics.
- Identify and use resources to answer questions for writers in the Writing Center and Zoom.
- Be timely and proactive in communicating with colleagues and supervisors.
- Collect and analyze data to support Writing Center assessment projects.
- Organize and update digital files and materials.
- Contribute to programming and marketing, including preparing and distributing advertising materials and assessing campus spaces for effective outreach.
- Maintain and update the Writing Center library, including keeping records and researching and recommending new books and resources.
- Document Writing Center activity in a collective shift log.
- Process research poster requests and print posters.
- Help maintain the Writing Center’s physical space, including supply and resource inventories.
- Manage set up and take down of writing groups and workshops held during your shift.
- Attend regular staff meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned, which may include supporting the Writing Center website and social media accounts.

- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and rhetorically with a diverse range of individuals.
- Ability and willingness to think creatively and critically and to approach questions and problems from multiple angles.
- Ability to edit and copy-edit text effectively for internal and external distribution.
- Willingness to learn actively on the job and proactively identify areas for growth.
- Ability to be reliable and dependable, including showing up to work on time.
Required Qualifications:
- University of Denver student planning to enroll in Fall 2026, Winter 2027 and Spring 2027 in the 2026-2027 academic year.
- Confirmed work study award for 2026-2027 academic year.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets
- Experience with customer service
- Experience with social media and/or event advertising and planning
- Experience with Outlook, Gmail, Zoom and Slack
- Proficiency in a language in addition to English
Work Schedule and Environment:
- Admins are typically schedule to work 2-4 hours shifts for 6-10 hours per week.
- Days, Evenings and Sundays. (The Writing Center is closed on Saturdays.)
- Work schedules change every quarter to accommodate class schedules.
- Standard office environment.
- Unexpected interruptions occur often, and stress level is moderate to high.
- Noise level is quiet to moderate.
Physical Activities:
- Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period.
- Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.
Compensation & Benefits:
WORK-STUDY ONLY – Writing Center admins work during the fall, winter, and spring academic quarters. Beginning hourly wage for undergraduates is $19.50 per hour and for graduate students is $20.00 per hour.
In compliance with Colorado’s Healthy Families and Workplaces Act (HFWA), non-benefited employees accrue one hour of paid leave for every 30 hours worked up to a maximum of 48 hours per year.
