Student Content Creator — University Relations

Position Summary
In your role as Student Content Creator, you will work with the publications team to conduct interviews, research, and write stories for the DU Newsroom. Your focus will be representing student voices and interests in news stories, short features, and other mediums. The content creator will also participate in content brainstorming sessions when possible and will consult with the content teams about ways to serve, reach, and reflect diverse student audiences.
You will receive a behind-the-scenes look at what it’s like to be a communications professional in a university setting, as well as gain real-world industry experience. This position offers an excellent opportunity to cultivate interviewing and storytelling skills.
The content creator is also responsible for writing content aligned with AP and DU style as well as DU brand guidelines.
Essential Functions

Conduct research and interview students, faculty, and staff on a variety of topics.

Take photos and possibly video footage as needed.

Bring student-focused story ideas to the content team.

Plan and write 600- to 700-word stories for DU publications.

Work with editor to revise stories as needed.

Attend campus events as needed.

Assist with newsletters, distribution, research projects, and other duties, as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong writing skills

Ability to work collaboratively and positively with others to achieve publication goals

Experience interviewing and researching topics

Solid organizational and prioritization skills

Strong interpersonal and interviewing skills

Solid competency with Microsoft Office suite

News writing skills a plus

Knowledge of AP style a plus
Required Qualifications

Enrolled as a current University of Denver undergraduate or graduate student
Preferred Qualifications

University of Denver student majoring in journalism, English, creative writing, or related field
Hours, Schedule, and Pay

5-10 hours per week
