Essential Functions
The primary responsibilities of Student Leaders include the following:
- Organizing, preparing for, and conducting regular group sessions for first-year law student (1L) doctrinal courses to reinforce academic (study) skills, such as outlining, case-briefing, and exam-preparation/taking skills; discuss law school survival skills; work through hypotheticals or other practice problems with students; and answer questions.
- Organizing, preparing for, and conducting regular group sessions for 1L doctrinal courses for students in the Denver Law Ascent program (program developed to support students from communities historically underrepresented in the legal profession and those with less familiarity with the legal profession) to reinforce academic (study) skills, such as outlining, case-briefing, and exam-preparation/taking skills; discuss law school survival skills; work through hypotheticals or other practice problems with students; and answer questions.
- Meeting with students on an individual basis as needed to discuss specific student concerns regarding course materials.
- Attending scheduled in-person and asynchronous online AAP Student Leader team meetings/training sessions and individual meetings conducted by AAP faculty.
- Attending classes as necessary.
- Meeting with assigned course professors as necessary to discuss expectations and course materials/information.
- Coordinating with the course professor and AAP faculty to develop and submit a semester plan for the group sessions.
- Keeping records of attendance at all individual and group meetings, as well as email contacts with students. On a biweekly basis, completing and submitting time cards and attendance reports.
- Receiving faculty approval (either from assigned course professor or from AAP faculty) before distributing any written materials to students.
- Sending copies of materials provided to students to AAP faculty.
- Other duties as directed by the assigned course professor or AAP faculty.

Required Qualifications
- Current Sturm College of Law JD student enrolled for Fall 2026.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior teaching or tutoring experience is helpful, but not required.

- Standard office environment
- Unexpected interruptions occur occasionally
- Stress level is moderate
- Noise level is quiet to moderate
Physical Activities
- Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period
- Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.
Compensation and Benefits
- Student Leaders will be paid $19.29/hour.
- This position is open to non-work study students and to federal work study students, which requires eligibility through the Financial Aid Office.
- Students seeking an AAP Student Leader position must be available to work approximately 5-6 hours per week.
- Please note you may be required to attend some of the class sessions. For this reason, you may be required to reconcile your schedule with the class for which you are a Student Leader. Some weekend/evening hours may be required.
- In compliance with Colorado’s Healthy Families and Workplaces Act (HFWA), non-benefited employees accrue one hour of paid leave for every 30 hours worked up to a maximum of 48 hours per year.
