Program Assistant, Scrivner Institute of Public Policy
Essential Functions:
Communications:
- Developing external and internal communications, including drafting website articles and content for social media channels and newsletters
- Tracking and summarizing affiliated faculty publications and work
- Creating event flyers/graphics and promotional materials
Event Management:
- Assisting with logistical preparation for events, workshops, and meetings, including:
- Researching potential speakers and topics;
- Compiling and organizing event briefs and agendas;
- Supporting event promotion;
- Making room reservations;
- Helping with catering logistics;
- Tracking RSVPs and attendance information;
- Supporting day of event with set-up/clean-up, speaker engagement, photos, and notes
General Administration:
- Supporting the general administration of the Institute, including helping affiliated faculty and staff with adhoc projects and research
- Collecting and organizing Institute data and metrics for record-keeping and evaluation
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The following KSAs are necessary for this position:
- Strong writing and editing skills
- Ability to synthesize complex information for a general audience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact with stakeholders of all levels and from diverse backgrounds
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks independently and with attention to detail and independently
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel, Forms, and PowerPoint
The following KSAs are helpful for this position but can also be developed on the job:
- Experience creating content for social media (LinkedIn and Blue Sky), newsletters, and website articles
- Experience with Canva or similar platform for designing graphics and flyers
- Experience with event management, particularly at DU (room reservations via 25Live, registration via Crimson Connect, speaker prep, promotions)
- Interest in public policy, particularly local and state policy
Required Qualifications:
- Korbel student (minors accepted) enrolled for the 2026-2027 academic year and based in Denver.
Preferred Qualifications:
- MPP and PPOL students are especially encouraged to apply.
- Work study funding can be utilized for this position but is not a requirement.
Work Schedule & Considerations:
- The work schedule will be flexible and variable as the need for support varies on a week-to-week basis depending on events and other programming.
- In general, we anticipate this position would work an average of 5 hours weekly, with more hours likely around events.
- Please note that majority of the work can be performed remotely, but we require in-person support for events and meetings.
Working Environment:
- Most work can be done remotely with an internet connection and computer.
- In-person work required for events and periodic meetings.
Physical Activities:
- Occasional lifting and moving of supplies and boxes up to 20 lbs.
- Moving of furniture such as tables and chairs for events.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Students will be paid $20.50 per hour with the opportunity for yearly increases, dependent on performance.
- In compliance with Colorado’s Healthy Families and Workplaces Act (HFWA), non-benefited employees accrue one hour of paid leave for every 30 hours worked up to a maximum of 48 hours per year.
