THIS POSITION WILL WORK AT THE DANIEL L. RITCHIE CENTER FOR SPORTS AND WELLNESS ON CAMPUS.
Essential Functions:
- Lead Learn to Swim private & group lessons for participants ages 3 years through adult.
- Help develop water safety awareness amongst program participants & parents.
- Assist in the progressive development of swimmers based on their individual goals.
- Recognize and respond effectively and efficiently to emergencies
Other Functions:
- Attend and participate in monthly in-service trainings and all staff meetings
- Respond to participant questions and comments
- Provide excellent customer service to all Ritchie Center guests
- Maintain a general knowledge of programs taking place in the pool area
- Additional duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Current/Previous American Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED certifications (classes offered at the Ritchie Center throughout the year)
- Able to move about the Ritchie Center while transporting equipment or objects up to 50 pounds
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous swim instructor experience
- High School diploma & some college experience
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguard or WSI certification
Working Environment:
- The employee works in an active sports and fitness environment.
- Interruptions occur frequently and the stress level is moderate.
- Evening and Weekend hours may be required with this position
Physical Activities:
- Program set-up and take down.
- Participant rescues (as necessary).
- Participation in monthly in-services and skill checks.
Compensation & Benefits:
- This position is eligible for a federal work-study, which requires eligibility through the Financial Aid Office.
- This position is also open to non-work study funded students.
- Students will be paid $18.50-$21.00/hr with the opportunity for yearly increases, dependent on performance.
- In compliance with Colorado’s Healthy Families and Workplaces Act (HFWA), non-benefited employees accrue one hour of paid leave for every 30 hours worked up to a maximum of 48 hours per year
