Summary: The Special Projects Intern will gain valuable experience in the national security and non-profit sectors while providing critical support for various CELL events, projects, and programs. This person will also have the opportunity to provide content and programmatic support for the newly redesigned CELL Exhibit, working with renowned subject matter experts on a range of topics from foreign terrorist operations to the threat of domestic terrorism in the United States today. The Special Projects Intern will be able to engage with numerous aspects of the organization, from assisting with marketing and outreach, to conducting trainings and tours, to providing logistical support to the CELL’s renowned Speaker Series and other events.
Essential Functions
· Research and report on topics related to domestic and international terrorism, homeland security, national security, and community safety efforts
· Drafts content for inclusion in the CELL exhibit and associated educational programs
· Delivers engaging and informative trainings, tours, presentations, and progress updates to a variety of groups both internally and externally
· Supports project managers in coordinating schedules and milestones for CELL events, projects, and programs
· Supports logistics, update internal and external documents, and prepare supplies and materials for programs, events, and grant initiatives
· Provides timely communication to team members and management on all projects
· Other related duties as assigned
Skills and Qualifications
· Upper-level undergraduate student or graduate student in a related field preferred
· Experience with project coordination strongly preferred
· Passion for and experience in security studies, international relations, and current events
· Exceptionally detail-oriented
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
· Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information
· Outstanding writing, presentation, communication, and problem-solving skills
· Experience working in a fast-paced, professional environment a plus
· Highly motivated, positive, flexible, and proactive team player is a must
· Must be able to lift at least 20 pounds on an occasional basis and up to 10 pounds frequently
Hours and Salary
This is a paid internship at $20/hour. Interns should be able to dedicate 20-25 hours a week during office hours, ideally on two or three full 8-hour days. Due to covid-19, this position may require work hours to be completed remotely. Some weekends and evenings will be required for assistance staffing CELL programs. Internships typically last for one to two academic terms or over the summer.
