Our 4 Confirmed Lamont alumni panelists:Madoka Asari (MM, Piano Performance)Japanese pianist Madoka Asari is a highly sought-after collaborator who has performed in the U.S.A., Japan, France, and the Czech Republic. Madoka has performed with members from the Cleveland Quartet, Tokyo Quartet, Canadian Brass, New York Philharmonic, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and Takács Quartet. Madoka has served as a faculty member at Colorado State University, CU Boulder, and Indiana University Bloomington. Currently she works as a staff pianist at DU’s Lamont School of Music and a pianist for Colorado Children’s Chorale.
Madoka’s performances have been featured on Colorado Public Radio, and in an album with a cellist Roberto Arundale, Confluencia: Music of Latin America. As a soloist, she has performed at Carnegie’s Weill Recital hall and appeared with Littleton Symphony Orchestra, Lamont Symphony Orchestra, and Philharmonia of Greater Kansas City. Madoka has received fellowships from the Music Academy of the West and the Aspen Music Festival and School, and holds a Master of Music degree from Indiana University and Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Denver.
Liz Evans (MM, Percussion Performance)
A proud Michigan native, Liz Evans is a versatile and joyful musician. She completed her bachelor’s studies at Michigan State University in Music Education, which cultivated her love for performing and teaching. While there, she studied West African music and dance abroad in Ghana, Africa. She went on to pursue a master’s degree in percussion at the University of Denver, Lamont School of Music. She has taught in numerous schools throughout Michigan, Denver, and Frisco, Texas.
Throughout her master’s, she worked as the Percussion Director of Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, where she single-handedly established a competitive winter percussion ensemble. Most recently she was the Assistant Percussion Director at Reedy High School in Frisco, and is currently the Director of Percussion at Bentonville West High School and the Director of Bands at Grimsley Junior High School.
As a performer, Liz loves premiering new works and sharing music with others. Through winning the 2019 Lamont School of Music Solo Honors Competition, she performed Joseph Schwantner’s “Concerto for Percussion and Orchestra” with the Lamont Wind Ensemble.
Zac Larson (MM, Guitar Performance)
Zachary Larson enjoys a multifaceted career as a performer, teacher, and published arranger of music. As part of his flute and guitar duo, the Keith/Larson Duo, he has completed three national tours, been a featured performer at several classical and modern music festivals, and commissioned many new works by emerging composers.
Over the last few years, Zachary expanded his horizons into the world of musical theater. He served as the guitarist during the 2018-2019 national tour of the Broadway musical Finding Neverland, and is repeatedly invited to perform at the Lake Dillon Theater in Silverthorne, Colorado and onboard Holland America Cruises.
As a teacher, Zachary previously served as the guitar instructor at STEM School Highlands Ranch, Conservatory Green High School, and as a graduate teaching assistant at the Lamont School of Music. His arrangements of orchestral repertoire for guitar ensemble were recently selected for publication by Clear Note Publication.
He earned a Master’s degree from the University of Denver (M.M. ’16), and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska Omaha (B.M. ’13). His primary instructors have been Hadley Heavin, Jonathan Leathwood, and Ricardo Iznaola.
Seth Quay (MM, Piano Pedagogy)
Seth Quay graduated from DU in the spring of 2020 with a M.M. in piano pedagogy. While attending Lamont, he completed his yoga teacher training and regularly taught yoga classes for the Ritchie Center on campus.
In the summer of 2019, he was invited to present at the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy on the topic of mindfulness and breathing in the piano studio as ways to prepare for performance and increase efficiency in practice. He currently lives in San Diego, California where he teaches piano and yoga and mindfulness.
