SUMMARY:Alumni Professional Development Series – Personal Branding
DESCRIPTION:Everyone has a professional reputation or brand. It is important to take consistent steps to ensure that your brand is an accurate reflection of your strengths and value. What are those steps? How do you showcase your authentic best self? The good news? Introverts can do this just as easily as extroverts!
This overview will walk you through the key steps involved in understanding how the world perceives you, how to shape that perception, and how to ensure that your professional reputation grows in quality and visibility throughout your career. You will learn tools and strategies that will help you create and shape a personal brand that will help you through all phases of your career: job search, career change and building your reputation.
You will learn:
The key brand "touch-points" and how to use them
What elements of professional activity to showcase to grow career opportunities
Strengths to build on, even if you feel you don't have any to highlight
Available digital tools that allow you to effectively market your professional brand
Similarities and differences between a resume and a LinkedIn profile
The value of digital portfolios and personal websites
Our presenters:
Kim Dority (MLIS '82) is a writer, presenter and coach who specializes in content strategy and development with a focus on career topics. Kim explains the strategy and tactics around career issues so that her audience can easily implement them.
Sam Jay (PhD '14) is a professional brand consultant and assistant professor of Rhetoric at Metropolitan State University of Denver. Sam uses his deep knowledge of persuasion and digital media technologies to help others market their skills and develop their brand.
