Faculty & Staff

Everyone at DU is here to see students succeed!  We all want to help students accomplish their career and professional development goals. Faculty and staff members play a critical role in students’ professional development by not only educating them in the classroom but also guiding the decisions they make about course offerings, graduate school choices, and career opportunities.

By working with Career & Professional Development, faculty and staff can enhance students’ professional growth through a variety of career workshops, resources, and services to help integrate career development into the classroom and beyond.  Career & Professional Development also offers employer and alumni hosted events throughout the academic year for students to gain information, learn about career development resources and begin building their professional network through the Career Achievement Milestones.

  • Faculty Career Champion Program

Faculty are a huge part of DU students’ academic life.  Many students turn to faculty for advice on resume/CV’s, career paths, internship and research opportunities, graduate school advice and much more.  To acknowledge and recognize these faculty career advocates, Career & Professional Development has created the Faculty Career Champion Award.  At the end of each academic year, students are asked to nominate faculty who go above and beyond in supporting students’ career and professional development growth.  Hundreds of students nominate faculty each year and many faculty receive multiple nominations. We review all the nominees and select a few faculty who stand out among the other nominees.  Each year the Chancellor and Provost kick off the Faculty Career Champion Award Ceremony to honor the champions. Below are the announce from the Faculty Career Champions from the past several years:
2022 Faculty Career Champions | 2021 Faculty Career
2020 Faculty Career Champions | 2019 Faculty Career Champions
2018 Faculty Career Champions | 2017 Faculty Career Champions

Faculty and staff in presentationCareer & Professional Development offers a variety of resources for students that many times students are unaware that these resources even exit on campus.   There are many ways faculty and staff can help spread the word:

    • Have your class or student org take a tour of the new Burwell Center for Career Achievement.
    • Don’t cancel class. Have a career advisor cover for you to provide a presentation on interviewing, writing a resume/CV or an overview of career resources.
    • Faculty can include a career development activity in their syllabi and classroom. Learn more.
    • Send job and internship referrals from employers to Hire@du.edu.
    • Contact us you have ideas for career programming that connects students with alumni/employers.  We have resources to help
  • Faculty Career Champion Working Groups
We love to hear feedback and ideas from faculty on ways to infuse career development into the classroom as well as ideas for future programming.  For the past few years, Career & Professional Development has created two Faculty Career Champion Working Groups consisting of faculty and staff from across the campus.  One working group is focused on undergraduates and the other is focused on graduate students.  We have improved and made changes in meaningful ways as result of these groups.  There is a two-year commitment and we meet three times a year.  If you or someone you know are interested in representing your college on of the working groups, please contact us.
