What kind of job can I get?
All student employment positions at DU are listed on PCO, the main job and internship platform for students and alumni. These jobs range from research to administration to program management and more. They are generally part-time jobs paid by the hour according to our student employee payscale.
You will see that some positions require applicants to have a federal work-study award. This is a form of federal financial aid that is not available to international students. To view only positions that do not require a federal work-study award, you can use search filters as shown in our short How to Find a Student Employment Job on PCO video. For other information on finding and applying to jobs, check out our other videos:
How do I get a job offer?
You can find written and video instructions on how to find and apply for jobs on PCO through our Student Employee webpage under the “Find” and “Apply & Get Hired” buttons.
All student employment position applications will require a resume or CV. Some may also require a cover letter, writing sample, transcript, or other documents. We understand this may be a new process for you, so check out our resume and cover letter resources before applying! Many positions will also have an interview step in the hiring process.
Please note all resumes submitted through PCO will go through an automatic review process by the Career & Professional Development staff. While this may take extra time on your part if revisions are needed, it’s to support you in submitting the most competitive application possible.
You will not be able to submit your full application until the resume has been reviewed and approved. Please allow at least three days before the application deadline for this step. For help with this process, contact stuemp@du.edu.
How do I get onboarded?
Once the hiring manager makes an offer of employment and you accept it, you will need to submit paperwork including a background check, an I-9 form, and a W-4 form, to Shared Services. Make sure to submit these promptly and communicate with your supervisor about them as needed. Reach out to sharedservices@du.edu with any questions.
Student employment can be a foundational experience for your professional development, so join us on Canvas for an orientation course to make the most of it. This orientation will include more details about working with your supervisor, getting paid, and more. Any student who has not worked on campus in the past year will be automatically enrolled, but if you’re not, let us know at stuemp@du.edu and we’ll add you!
As you get started in your student employment job, spend a little time learning about your supervisor and their communication and feedback styles. Consider using this questionnaire as a starting point.
What about work study?
Work-study is a need-based financial aid award that allows students to work on campus or with an approved off-campus employer to earn money. Numerous campus positions will require that you have work study funds to apply.
For more information on work study and work-study eligibility for student employees, review the Work Study Policy Guide or visit the undergraduate and graduate work-study pages within the office of Financial Aid. Reach out to workstudy@du.edu with any questions.
Quick tip for non-work study students: When searching for student employment jobs in PCO, to filter for non–work study jobs, click More Filters under the search bar, find Work Study Required?, and select No.
What opportunities will I have as a student employee?
This year, student employees can join the Student Employees Achieve (SEA) Badge program in fall and/or winter quarters to show future employers just how career-ready they are, thanks to their student employment!
Our office also hosts campus-wide trainings through the Student Employees Achieve series and team-specific trainings for offices that employ students.
If you have further questions, you can always reach out with student employment questions to us at stuemp@du.edu!
