WHAT IS AN INTERNSHIP?
An internship is a form of experiential learning that takes what you’ve learned in the classroom and gives you an opportunity to practice and apply it in a professional setting. Internships offer students the chance to gain valuable experience and make connections in professional fields.
WHY ARE INTERNSHIPS IMPORTANT?
Internships matter in the job search: When choosing between two otherwise equally qualified candidates, employers deem having an internship within their organization or within their industry to be the most influential factor.
WHY ARE INTERNSHIPS IMPORTANT FOR DU STUDENTS SPECIFICALLY?
- From 2018-2022, 90%-93% of bachelor’s degree graduates who participated in internships were employed or continuing their education at 6 months after graduation, compared with 74%-85% of bachelor’s degree graduates who had not participated in internships.
- Bachelor’s degree graduates who participated in internships had higher average and median salaries than those with no internships.
