Good News for International Studies Master’s Candidates (Korbel MA Students)

Advanced degrees in international studies, and specifically international security studies, are becoming more desirable in the professional field. In September of 2020, National Student Clearinghouse presented a study that showed master’s programs had risen by 6% in 2019 across all disciplines, even while enrollment for undergraduate degrees fell dramatically. Advanced degrees are becoming a more normalized part of the education experience, but they still are a costly and time – extensive investment.

A further study of the difference in earning potential by fields showed that there was a 44% increase for those that graduated with a master’s degree in international affairs rather than just a bachelor’s degree in the field. The 7th overall highest across all areas of study. Students’ financial investment in their master’s degree is going to pay off. Those with an advanced degree make almost 2x as much per week compared to those without.

Korbel students should be excited about this growth in the field. The professional environment is understanding the important skills students learn while in programs focusing on international studies.
