Senior-Level DU Employers Share Top 5 Qualities They Seek in New Hires

At this week’s Career Services Employer Advisory Board meeting, top executives from Medtronic/Covidien, Kaiser Permanente, Ball Aerospace, DISH Network, Fidelity Investments, Arrow Electronics, PADT, IMI-Precision, Follett, and the Colorado Non-Profit Association, shared tips for job and internship candidates.  Here is what they listed:

 

  1. Communication
    The ability to concisely convey ideas and information to customers and co-workers in both written and oral formats.
  2. Strong Work Ethic
    Includes energy, initiative, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude.
  3. Adaptability
    The ability to learn, be curious, flexible, resilient, and willing to try new things.
  4. Collaboration
    The ability to think and work effectively with others across disciplines and traditional roles.
  5. Inclusion
    Able to understand and bring new viewpoints and perspectives to the mission and company.

The Employer Advisory Board provides a link between the University Career Services initiative and business and industry professionals that fosters information exchange on best practices for recruitment, work force preparedness, and partnering opportunities for career services events, panels, and discussions.
