Update: The Director of Global Talent Acquisition for Nike is coming to the DU Campus on Thursday, Feb. 5 from 1-2pm to talk about the Nike Ignite Internship Program for all majors– both undergrad and graduate students.

Just Do It!  And we did….DU Career Services recently traveled to Portland, OR to visit the Nike World Headquarters and learn more about Nike’s robust and engaging summer internship program called “Nike Ignite”.  The program is a 12 week full-time summer internship opportunity consisting of 145 undergraduate and graduate students from a variety of majors who work at the Nike World Headquarters from June to August. The program provides exposure to real-life projects on global issues, networking, a Nike executive speaker series and interaction with other interns from other local companies such as Intel, Wieden and Kennedy.  The interns work in cross-functional teams focused on real world Nike business challenges.  Nike Ignite interns are diverse, experienced, and socially conscious.

So how does a DU student position themselves to become a Nike Ignite intern?  It will be tough.  Nike hired 145 interns last summer and they received 12,000 applications! So here is what we learned on our visit: they are looking for intern candidates who are outgoing, creative, prepared, engaging, articulate, positive, and have the standard core skills (communication, critical thinking, problem solving, team work). Nike recruiters are also looking for students who have a passion for sports and who like competition.  Applicants “must know Nike”!  The Nike culture is based on storytelling as you can see through their YouTube marketing videos.  Nike also expects their interns to be storytellers too.  They believe in this so much that they require video cover letters.  They want applicants to state Summer 2014 494what they can do for Nike and demonstrate team collaboration in a creative video.

Sounds like a lot of prep work?  You bet…that is why students should think about applying.  Most of the worthwhile opportunities in life are a lot of work! JUST DO IT!

Recruiting for the summer Nike Ignite internship program begins later this fall until early spring.
